What's your best money saving tip? Let's talk about our tightwad tendencies and favorite frugalities every Thursday!
Okay, I'll go first:
I save leftover hamburger buns in the freezer to use as a binder in meatballs and meatloaf.

What about you?

Powdered milk!! Even if you feel like you can't drink it plain, use it in cereal or for cooking. It saves a ton. It is initially a big expense, but it more than pays for itself!

BTW - Thanks for doing this! I will be chekcing back for more ideas!

I buy all of my meat in bulk (except for things I rarely eat but for some reason are buying) from Sams. I brown then freeze the ground beef, or I put together a couple of meatloaves to freeze. I get the individually frozen chicken breasts and fish. I NEVER bought frozen fish, but tried it & it's good enough for non-gourmet just cooking dinner me. All paper products also bought in bulk. (napkins, plates, tp, diapers, etc.)

I know that's a no brainer, but I didn't want to stop by without contributing.

I second the dry milk... use it daily! Also, this may seem obvious but... don't buy things you don't need. Often, I am tempted to buy something because it is on sale or there is a good coupon, but if I don't need it, I spent money I wasn't planning on spending anyway. It's not savings if you spend to get it!

The book Miserly Moms helped me cut the grocery budget in almost half. Specifically, I keep a little journal of all food prices so I always know what's a great deal and when so I can stock up when things are on sale. I only buy meats in bulk and never pay more than 99 cents a pound for ground beef and 1.99 a pound for boneless, skinless chicken breasts. (That's dirt cheap in my area!) Last, I buy my children's clothes and brand name stores but by the next year in advance when clothing goes on clearance. For example, I know the 3rd or 4th week in January is the largest clearance time for winter clothes so if my baby is in 2T now, I buy clearance winter clothes in 3T for next winter. They're always in GAP and Gymboree - for $5 or less an outfit. :)

If you want to redecorate and don't have much $$ to do it, use what you already have, but move it around. Mix it up, Take a few pieces from the family room and put them in the living room. Paint picture frames you already have a different color. Take lamps from one room and put them in a different room. Frame art you've made yourself. Regroup collections of items, or take some away and have a few displays instead of one. Paint your mantle. Bring out Grandma's doilys. Frame them and you've got dining room wall decor. Stirring the pot can save money, make tired rooms look new and you don't have to worry about getting rid of old, buying new and spending lots of money.

Plan your weekly meals around what's on sale at your local grocery store. Use the weekly circular (free in your mailbox, or available online). Stock up on sale items you use frequently. Use coupons ONLY if they are for something you would already be buying. Eat fresh, whole foods and avoid convenience foods when possible. Eat in and avoid ordering or eating out except on special days for which you've planned or budgeted.

Happy Thrifty Thursday!

a few things not knowing if this is what you're looking for: we're big on pets that eat lots of fresh veggies, so, when at the grocery store I ask for the leaves left behind from the picky consumer of cabbages and such, Usu I can have them free...also, when buying roasts I purchase two when on sale-cook one in the oven as usu. and boil the other on the stove-to make BBQ sandwiches later. Money and time savers. I'll try to think of others and get back to ya.

Stay out of the stores! If I go anywhere, from the grocery store to Target to Big Lots, I *will* spend $25 on nothing. : )
